Several times a year, the Trillion team gets off their computers and spends an afternoon getting their creative juices flowing with a creative outing. Past creative outings have included painting pottery at Color Me Mine, taking in a show at Paper Mill Playhouse, and visiting a colorful exhibit at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. This year, the team participated in a workshop on glassblowing at Morris County School of Glass—a first for everyone involved!
Fifteen minutes away from our Summit, NJ office, Morris County School of Glass is a glassblowing school, studio, and gallery. Morris County School of Glass is one of the most energy efficient glass studios on the East Coast and offers classes, workshops, private and group lessons, artist demonstrations, and more. Fortunately for us, it was also the perfect team building activity!
Two Morris County School of Glass instructors lead the two-hour demonstration, walking us through the process and keeping us safe from the extremely hot equipment.
Temperatures in the furnaces can reach 2,100 degrees.
Glassblowing involves inflating molten glass into a bubble with the help of a blowpipe. The hands-on experience required a lot of communication and participation amongst the team. The workstation involved three people (plus a Morris County School of Glass employee to supervise): one turning and shaping the piece, one puffing air into the blowpipe, and one holding a paddle to deflect the heat from the glass. “We left the studio with five beautiful keepsakes and a new appreciation for this amazing artform. We were blown away!” said Courtney Peppe, Marketing Manager at Trillion.
Glassblowing got us fired up for 2019 and we’re looking forward to a productive (and creative!) year. We documented our afternoon at Morris County School of Glass on Instagram—so check out our photos below and be sure to follow us.
