This month we are pleased to introduce Liz Miller, our new Marketing Director! We always like to share a little bit about our talented team members, so Liz took some time out of her busy schedule to answer a few Trillion questions.

What led you to Trillion?A headshot of Trillion Marketing Director Liz Miller.

I had been looking for a company where I could make a more measurable impact. For much of my career, I worked in-house at a large media company or at large global ad agencies. I loved it, but I was looking forward to working with a different variety of clients so that I could do more outside-the-box marketing and create a bigger impact for them. I have a Master’s in Public Administration with a specialization in Nonprofit Management, and I love being able to support local businesses and nonprofits. In my previous position, I had started a corporate responsibility program, so I had been connected to nonprofits across the country and had seen how empowering the right strategy and marketing could be for those organizations.

What do you wish people understood about marketing?

With digital marketing, people get used to looking at the immediate results, and they don’t always take into account how a long-term brand strategy can help meet business goals. Brand building can take a long time, and you can go months without seeing any direct impact on sales. Creating awareness for your brand and making sure people understand what it stands for is critical to meeting future business goals. Digital performance marketing can be very effective, but success in sales and marketing comes in large part from what you stand for as a brand.

How do you relax during time off?

I love to do crosswords! I end most of my days with a handwritten crossword puzzle – not a digital version on my phone. I always have a crossword puzzle book when I travel.

How do you stay creative and inspired?

I am constantly looking for examples of how brands are connecting with their audiences. I love learning; I always have my antenna up to see what others have done that I can learn from and apply. I am always exploring; I listen to podcasts about media and business or brand strategy. Lately, I have found that LinkedIn has become an excellent platform for strategy discussions. Remaining constantly aware of new ways to approach strategy and marketing is an important part of servicing my clients well.

What is your favorite food for stress eating?

I love cereal. Life cereal is my favorite. It is a totally underrated cereal! Crispix and Kix are also amazing.

Are you a morning or a night person?

Total morning person. I love getting up early!

What is the coolest vacation you’ve taken?

Hawaii! My husband and I went to Oahu and Maui for our honeymoon. We went ziplining and hiking. We biked down the side of a volcano. We went to Kualoa Ranch, a nature preserve where they filmed a lot of Jurassic Park, and rode ATVs through the terrain. Yes, we found time to relax as well.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I have run dozens of races, including two marathons.

What is the last picture on your cell phone?

My 4-year-old son at basketball practice.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Thinking strategically. I really enjoy working on marketing strategy and seeing how it leads to change and growth for businesses and organizations. There are so many innovative ways now to reach customers or constituents and I love being able to help turn around a business or solve a problem. The creativity of solving problems is what excites me.
