Trillion was a big winner in the 59th Annual American Graphic Design Awards, winning six awards, including a first-time win for Trillion Graphic Designer Danielle Singer. The talented creatives at Trillion produced award-winning work for their clients, helping them to reach – or surpass – their marketing or fundraising goals.
For almost 60 years, the flagship American Graphic Design Awards have been honoring the best and the brightest, most effective, engaging graphic communications of the year. The competition this year was especially keen with over 14,000 entries vying for recognition and included designers and their work on notable brands such as Shell Oil, PepsiCo, Hubble Telescope, and Liberty Mutual Insurance. Trillion is proudly represented in three different categories, winning twice in each one, the highest number of awards they have captured in a single contest.
Graphic Design for Inspiring Annual Reports
In the category of Annual and Corporate Reports, Trillion won for their graphic design on two separate impact reports. Impact reports serve a similar function to Annual Reports, with an added emphasis on the impact donors have had on the organization. For these reports, it is important that the design draws the reader in and evokes a feeling of relationship with the organization. For the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation Donor Impact Report, Trillion used photography and design to depict the foundation’s life-changing stories and designed compelling charts and infographics to show the organization’s fiscal health. Donors can readily see the power of their gifts through the clear, meaningful design.
Connecting with the donors took on special significance in the other winner, the Ukrainian Catholic University Foundation Impact Report. The UCU Foundation has been supporting the University as it provides aid to Ukrainians in the defense of their country against Russia and relies heavily on passionate storytelling to involve and inspire its donors.
“UCU has been a vital source of humanitarian relief and hope for Ukraine since the Russian invasion,” said Larissa Montecuollo, Partner at Trillion. “We were highly focused on communicating all of the lifesaving work being done at the university during this year of hardship and courage. Good design is transformative in any project, but it took on a deeper meaning in this case.”
Graphic Design that Makes Mailers Stand Out
In the Direct Mail and Direct Response Category, Graphic Designer Danielle Singer won her first major design award for her work on the First Presbyterian Church Nursery School Sustainable Stewardship Campaign Mailer. “It’s very exciting to be acknowledged,” said Danielle. “We are always very client-focused, so to be recognized by GDUSA in such a noteworthy way is a very pleasant surprise.” This mailer was unique due to its kraft paper and white ink design elements.
The other winner, the LREI 100th Day Endowment Solicitation was a good example of using design to maximum effect. This self-mailer was concise and yet still managed to convey the pride, success, and inclusivity of the school’s brand. “Good design is all about impact,” explains Lou Leonardis, Partner at Trillion. “We love the challenge of a small format to catch and hold the reader’s attention. This mailer was perfectly timed in its delivery and arrival in mailboxes—arriving on the 100th day of school, during the school’s 100th anniversary.”
Enhancing Menus with Creative Graphic Design
Trillion scored another home run in the Menus and Brochures Category with two different menu designs for Aramark, the stadium food and beverage service provider. Aramark Citi Field Suites Menu, which outlines a premium dining option, was an opportunity for Trillion to expand the clubhouse feel into a more aspirational ballpark experience while maintaining a traditional stadium feeling.
As any baseball fan knows, a season can be full of surprises, and when the team made the playoffs, Trillion was able to create special versions of the menus for Citi Field to capitalize on the extended season.
The Aramark Fenway Park Suites Menu, produced for the Boston Red Sox at the iconic Fenway Park, also elevates the classic ballfield vibe to appeal to today’s sophisticated fans. “Working with such beloved, time-honored brands is its own special challenge,” says Jillian Dougherty, Art Director. “The design had to include the classic baseball feel and reinterpret it for the modern stadium experience.”
