PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Tech Interactive is a family-friendly science and technology center in San Jose, California, with a mission to empower the next generation of problem-solvers through inclusive STEAM education.

For its end-of-year appeal, The Tech needed to engage four distinct audience segments—current donors, lapsed donors, members, and lapsed members—and communicate the full scope of its impact as an educational hub, community resource and creator of the Tech Challenge, which invites children in grades 4–12 to engage in the engineering design process. The complexity of the organization’s work needed to be distilled into four different letters that would resonate with those audiences.

Additionally, The Tech wanted to incorporate some of their previous branding tied to “Wicked: For Good,” reinforcing its commitment to using technology as a force for good.

Each of the four letters featured a colorful sidebar of statistics with copy tailored to the particular segment. Trillion’s team developed a two-sided flyer that featured easy-to-scan statistics and emotive photography showcasing children actively participating in museum programs. This was paired with brief, compelling blurbs about the current exhibits and initiatives, highlighting The Tech’s measurable impact. Visual and tonal cues inspired by “Wicked: For Good” were used subtly throughout, and a QR code was added to both the flyer and letter to facilitate easy donations.

RESULTS

The end-of-year appeal performed extremely well, raising $50K more than the previous year and garnering a large leadership donation from a brand-new donor.
