Cover of Inova Honors Gala Invitation.
The Challenge: A Memorable Identity for a Returning GalaA foundation gala needs a fresh, memorable visual identity each year to inspire sponsors and individuals to give. The look also had to extend cleanly across every fundraising touchpoint. The Inova Health Foundation, which supports Northern Virginia's leading nonprofit healthcare provider, asked Trillion for a second year in a row to develop the identity for its Inova Honors gala. The Solution: A Kaleidoscope Theme and Die-Cut InvitationBuilding on Inova's new branding, Trillion designed a typographic lock-up of the event name and created a one-of-a-kind kaleidoscope pattern using branded colors and a stethoscope motif. The invitation featured multiple die-cut pieces that rotate on a grommet, and Trillion applied the look across sponsorship cultivation materials, cards, email blasts, social media, signage, and venue communications. Trillion also provided the fundraising team with Canva templates and tools to prepare personalized sponsorship packages.ResultsThe sophisticated design reflected the level of excellence at Inova and increased the excitement surrounding the event. The Inova Honors gala helped raise more than $1.5 million in one evening.

A Website Built to Carry a Capital CampaignThe school's most ambitious campaign needed a digital home that could tell its story and make its priorities clear. The site had to create an emotional connection while staying consistent with the school's established and anniversary branding.Newark Academy, one of America's oldest private schools, set out to raise $30 million to strengthen the three pillars of its education through its most important capital campaign to date.Designing the Capital Campaign WebsiteTrillion designed and built a website that mirrors Newark Academy's established branding and its 250th anniversary campaign identity. Full-screen video, large photography, and a scrolling timeline carry the story of the school's impact and need, while the design strategically highlights each campaign priority. Fundraising Campaign trifold brochure with an asymmetric flap with the campaign name on the short flap and the outer envelope behind it.
The Challenge: A First-Ever Founders Day AppealMarking a 250th anniversary with a first Founders Day appeal meant honoring a long history while keeping a fun, celebratory feeling. As one of several campaigns run throughout the year, it also had to differentiate itself in a meaningful way from the rest of the calendar.Newark Academy celebrated its 250th anniversary by launching its first Founders Day appeal, one of several fundraising campaigns the school runs throughout the year. The Solution: A Segmented, Multi-Channel AppealTrillion designed a short-folded card that evoked tradition while the layout and photos kept it feeling modern. Copy was personalized for seven audience segments, and the card included a remittance envelope and a QR code for digital donations, with coordinating artwork prepared for an accompanying series of timed email blasts.ResultsThe Founders Day Appeal raised $318,383 for the school's annual fund, with an average gift of $1,000. Of the donors, 9% were first-time donors and 7% were SYBUNTs, and because it was the school's first Founders Day, the campaign also raised awareness of its history that future campaigns can draw on.

Stack of Razom Impact Report booklets
Turning a Year of Relief Into a Report Donors Could FeelRazom had never produced a printed impact report, yet it needed to show thousands of new supporters how their donations were saving lives during Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The challenge was translating an enormous volume of humanitarian relief into a single piece that felt both credible and emotionally moving.Razom is a U.S.-based not-for-profit whose mission is to unlock Ukraine's potential and build toward a more prosperous, democratic nation, with the name meaning "together" in Ukrainian.A 12-Page Impact Report Built on Stories and DataTrillion wrote and designed an eye-catching 12-page impact report that shared moving stories of humanitarian relief, impressive accomplishments, and the sheer volume of activity and support Razom delivered during its fiscal year. The finished piece was mailed to top donors, shared with partners, and published on Razom's website for all to see.ResultsThe impact report earned a GDUSA American Graphic Design Award in the Annual and Corporate Reports category. Razom later shared that, after presenting the report to another nonprofit winding down its operations, it was chosen over two other organizations to receive the remaining assets.

The Food for Thought 2023 gala invitation on a grey background.
The Challenge: Branding a Signature Fundraising NightThe annual Food for Thought gala brings celebrated chefs and committed supporters into one memorable evening, and that evening needed a look as distinctive as the night itself. Trillion was asked to create event branding that would unify everything from the invitation to the on-site experience.Held at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York City, the Food for Thought gala centered on a tasting menu created by nearly 30 of the city’s most celebrated chefs. The Solution: A Cohesive Event IdentityTrillion built on Cooke's existing color palette and created a unique pattern and a typographic lock-up of the event name. Knowing the venue's large west-facing windows and sunsets, Trillion designed large-scale window clings that let light transmit into the space, along with signage identifying the chefs and their restaurants, tabletop centerpieces, posters, main stage backgrounds, step and repeat backgrounds, website graphics, and a die-cut invitation package.ResultsThe gala sold out with a waitlist and raised $1.4 million.

End-of-year appeal mailing pieces for New York New Jersey Trail Conference.
Designing a Standout Appeal Mailing Amid a Paper ShortageYear-end fundraising is a critical effort for nearly every nonprofit, and the mailbox is crowded with competition at that time of year. For a recent annual appeal, a massive envelope and paper shortage left over from pandemic supply chain issues meant full-color outer envelopes could not be printed. The mailing still had to grab attention and move donors to give within those constraints. The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference stewards more than 5,200 acres of preserved parkland and helps build, maintain, and protect over 2,150 miles of hiking trails across northern New Jersey and southern New York, and Trillion has designed its end-of-year appeal mailings for many years.A Single-Color Mailing Built to ConvertRather than full color, Trillion printed a single color on brightly colored green paper, and it was a success. The mailing included a bright green outer envelope, a personalized full-color letter with an informative z-folded backside, a personalized response card with previous giving history and bump gift options, and a reply envelope. Premium gift options were offered for support of $150 and up, with the ability to opt out of the premium, and QR codes let donors show their support directly from their phones.ResultsThe QR codes included in the mailing generated nearly 75% of the total amount raised by the mailing. The work earned a GDUSA American Graphic Design Award for Direct Mail + Email Marketing.

An EOY fundraiser mailer for Razom showcasing a letter and envelope.
A Year-End Appeal Needed Fast, With Lives on the LineThe scale of the war and the urgency of the humanitarian need accelerated so quickly that the organization did not have the resources it needed to create a critical year-end appeal. Trillion was asked to step in and produce a complete direct mail campaign on an extremely compressed timeline.Razom, whose name means "together" in Ukrainian, is a U.S.-based not-for-profit running tireless humanitarian relief efforts throughout the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, backed by a tremendous network of volunteer and U.S. donor support.A Complete Direct Mail Appeal in Under a WeekIn what may have been its fastest turnaround ever, Trillion wrote and designed an effective end-of-year appeal that included a letter with a tear-off response card, a remittance envelope, and an outer envelope. Trillion facilitated the printing and mailing, advised on who to send the appeal to, and guided list-hygiene procedures before and after the drop. Razom then extended the messaging and creative assets into digital components.ResultsRazom reported over $100,000 in donations in December alone from the direct mail appeal. The success of the appeal led to Trillion being hired for Razom's subsequent direct mail initiatives, including its first printed impact report for major donors and two additional solicitations.
